Bullying has been around for as long as social acceptance has been important to the human race. Only recently, however, has it come front and center as a major problem taking place throughout the country. With this sudden change in the way we perceive bullying I asked of our readers to send in a store involving them or someone they know and love, that affect them in deep and maybe lasting ways. Needless to say, I got a glut of responses, some great, all heart wrenching. So, as promised I will be printing some of these deeply personal letters in place of my column for the coming weeks. As a person who has experienced firsthand the effect of bullying it is my mission to shine a light on this problem, and do anything I can to stop it. Without further ado, I give you the first of many letters that I hope will show just how traumatic bullying can be. As a kid, I was bullied a lot. I was an awkward, overweight nine-year-old how had just moved to a new school district. One out in the rural suburban area of Pittsburgh, PA. So, needless to say I wasn’t the most popular kid in school. In fact, from my own observation I was the third least popular. I noticed when the other two weren’t there I became the center of unfair ridicule and cruel overweight jokes. I would smile and pretend they didn’t bother me, but deep down inside I felt like a lone person, a drift in the middle of the Pacific.
